It’s 2017, and Soccer is finally starting to gain momentum. Although soccer is by far the most popular sport in the world, it hasn’t quite caught on here in the States. Soccer is just outside the top four when it comes to popularity of North American sports. Football, Basketball, Baseball, and Hockey are considered the “Big Four” respectively.
However, according to the Huffington Post, Soccer is here to stay. Major League Soccer is rapidly growing here in the US and Canada. The league has 22 teams as of right now, and Don Garber, the Commissioner of the MLS, wants to get the league to 28 teams eventually. Valuations for each of these clubs continue to rise and average league attendance is rising remarkably each and every year.
I don’t want to focus just on Soccer here in the States. The game is much, MUCH bigger than the MLS. There are a ton of soccer leagues around the world. The league that is considered the most popular and the most competitive is the English Premier League. These games are actually on NBC networks every Saturday and Sunday mornings and sometimes throughout the week. Time difference is a factor, but it is worth it.
Here are a couple reasons why you should start getting into Soccer here in 2017:
The Great Stories
Here’s of the best sport stories EVER in history. 5000-1 Odds for them to win, and they beat every single one of them and won in the best league in the world.
“Surely Dortmund have won the tie.” One of the best comebacks I’ve ever seen. Liverpool were basically down and out against one of the best teams in the World. This video explains it all; the passion, the fans, the heart, that’s what soccer brings out in people! Amazing!
Fans are apart of the game, why aren’t American fans like this?
Together, lets make Soccer continue to grow in 2017. Let’s continue to grow and hope for yet another successful year. I’m excited to announce that I’ll be writing about a unique and trending soccer club each and every week in order to help expand the information to you about the global game. Who knows, maybe you’ll use the clubs I feature in FIFA the next time you play!
